Quality Wooden Bedroom Furniture

Quality Wooden Bedroom Furniture

A bed frame is one of the few things in a house that gets used every single day for a decade or more. It's worth buying properly.

Chocolate Wood has sold solid timber bedroom furniture since 2006, from our showroom in Manly Vale and online across Australia. We offer two routes, and which one suits you depends on how particular your room is.

Two ways to buy

Held in stock

Most of our bedroom range is held in stock where available — beds, bedside tables, tallboys, dressers and wardrobes. These are imported, handcrafted overseas from solid kiln-dried timber. Construction varies by range — individual product pages set out the timber, dimensions and finish for each piece.

Indonesian mahogany. Our mahogany bedroom range is made in Indonesia. That producer holds a Timber Legality Verification System Certificate (SVLK) issued by the Indonesian Government, verifying that the timber is legally harvested and traceable through the supply chain. This certification applies to the Indonesian mahogany range only.

Messmate, oak and recycled elm. These come from other suppliers and are not covered by the SVLK certificate above. Recycled elm is reclaimed timber — remilled from timber that has already had a life.

Sydney metro delivery on items held in stock is typically three to five working days.

Australian custom made

If your room has an awkward wall, a low window, or you want a specific timber, our custom-made range is built at our Riverwood factory and workshop on Bonds Road, Riverwood, Sydney NSW 2210.

Available in Victorian ash and American oak, with blackwood, blackbutt, American walnut and New Zealand pine also available. Drawer boxes are built in New Zealand pine. You choose the dimensions, the timber and the finish. Estimated production time is three to four weeks plus delivery.

If you're closer to Riverwood than Manly Vale, you're welcome to view at the factory by appointment. Call 02 9949 9892 to arrange a time. Seeing pieces being built is the best way to understand what you're buying.

This is a genuinely different product at a different price. It's worth it when a standard size won't work, or when you want a bedroom suite that matches exactly.

White painted French Provincial and Hamptons

One of our most popular custom lines is white painted furniture in the French Provincial and Hamptons styles — wardrobes, dressers, tallboys and bedhead walls.

These are built in white painted MDF, which is the right material for a painted finish rather than a cheaper alternative to timber. It takes paint evenly, doesn't show grain through the topcoat, and stays flat across a large door or panel where solid timber would move with the seasons. On larger pieces we often finish with a solid Victorian ash top, frequently in a contrasting colour to the painted base.

On colours. White is our standard and by far the most popular. Black is available at additional cost. Beyond those two we're limited to commercial-grade Dulux colours we can source — so if you have a particular shade in mind, ask us before you plan around it.

Choosing a timber

Which timbers are available depends on which route you take.

Custom made at our Riverwood factory

Victorian ash — pale, fine even grain. Suits lighter, contemporary and coastal rooms.

American oak — a little warmer and more open-grained, and takes a stain well.

New Zealand pine — softer and lighter, and the most affordable solid timber option.

Blackwood, blackbutt and American walnut — the darker, more expensive end of the range.

White painted MDF — for the French Provincial and Hamptons pieces, often with a solid Victorian ash top.

Imported ranges

Mahogany — deeper, richer tone with a pronounced grain. Traditional and classic bedrooms.

Recycled elm — reclaimed timber with genuine history. Nail holes, colour variation and saw marks. Rustic rooms.

Messmate — strong grain and natural gum veins. More character than oak.

Mahogany and recycled elm are imported ranges and can't be made to order. If you need a specific size, the custom-made options above are the ones to look at.

Why solid timber in a bedroom

Bedroom furniture takes a particular kind of wear: drawers opened twice a day, a bed frame carrying weight every night for years.

Solid timber handles it, and it can generally be repaired. A drawer front that gets knocked can often be sanded and re-oiled. Veneer and particle board are usually harder to recover once the surface is damaged.

Everything carries a 12-month manufacturer's warranty against manufacturing faults, in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

See it before you buy

Timber colour is genuinely hard to judge from a screen, and bedroom furniture is a big commitment.
