Solid Wood Office Furniture

Most home office furniture is built to a price and shows it within a year — a laminate top that bubbles at the edge, a drawer that stops running true. A solid timber desk holds up better.

Chocolate Wood has sold solid timber furniture since 2006, from our showroom in Manly Vale and online across Australia. Our office range covers desks, bookcases and storage, held in stock and made to order.

Desks

Our desk range is mostly solid mahogany and mindi timber, in the styles that suit a home office rather than a corporate fit-out.

Writing desks — a clean surface, a drawer or two, and enough room for a laptop and paperwork without dominating a room. The Dakota writing desk comes with a leatherette top at 160cm.

Secretary desks — more storage in the same footprint. The Glasmere is solid mahogany with six drawers at 100cm wide, which suits a corner of a living room or a spare bedroom.

Shaped desks — the Brentwood is a two-drawer oval desk in solid mindi at 140cm, which works where a rectangle would feel heavy.

Storage and bookcases

Our bookcases and display units range from low two-shelf pieces to full-height units, in solid mahogany, acacia and oak.

For a wall of storage, the custom route is usually better — see below.

Custom-made office furniture

If you're building an office into an alcove, under a stair, or along a wall that nothing standard fits, we build to order at our Riverwood factory and workshop on Bonds Road, Riverwood, Sydney.

Desks, bookcases, wall units and storage, in Victorian ash, American oak, New Zealand pine, blackwood, blackbutt or American walnut. Drawer boxes are built in New Zealand pine.

White painted wall units and bookcases are one of our most popular custom lines — built in white painted MDF, which is the correct material for a painted finish rather than a cheaper alternative to timber. It takes paint evenly and stays flat across a large panel where solid timber would move. Larger pieces often get a solid Victorian ash top.

White is our standard colour and by far the most popular. Black is available at additional cost. Beyond those two we're limited to commercial-grade Dulux colours we can source — ask us before you plan around a particular shade.

Tell us the dimensions, timber and finish, and we'll quote it in writing. Estimated production time is three to four weeks plus delivery.

Why solid timber for a desk

A desk takes more punishment than most furniture in a house — elbows, keyboards, coffee, a chair scraping against the same spot every day.

Solid timber can generally be sanded back and re-oiled. A veneered or laminate top is usually harder to recover once the surface layer is damaged. If you're going to sit at something for eight hours a day, it's worth having something that can be brought back.

Everything carries a 12-month manufacturer's warranty against manufacturing faults, in addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

Imported and Australian made

Our in-stock desks and bookcases are imported, handcrafted overseas from solid kiln-dried timber. Construction varies by range — individual product pages set out the timber, dimensions and finish for each piece. Our Indonesian mahogany producer holds a Timber Legality Verification System Certificate (SVLK) issued by the Indonesian Government, verifying legal and traceable sourcing. That certification applies to the Indonesian mahogany range only.

Our custom-made office furniture is built at our Riverwood factory. We clearly distinguish our Australian custom-made range from our imported furniture, because you should know what you're buying.
